Tomato – San Marzano Roma

$2.09

An excellent variety for the home garden. Blocky plum shaped fruit are delicious in salads as well as for sauce, pastes, juices and canning. Plant growth is determinate and the fruit is much earlier and more productive than open pollinated varieties. This is one you’ll want to grow every year. Approximately 76 days to maturity.

Availability: 42 in stock

SOWING: Start seeds indoors in late winter through early spring in pots, trays or flats.  Cover seed with 1/8 inch soil. Plant seeds in sterilized, fertile soil. Water with warm water. Provide plenty of light for young seedlings.

THINNING AND TRANSPLANTING: When seedlings are about 2 inches tall, thin or individually pot indoor seedlings 3 inches apart. Plant outdoors in late spring after all danger of frost has passed and weather has warmed considerably.

SPACING: Leave 2 to 3 feet between plants.

GERMINATION: One to two weeks in the home at 70 F.

Ed’s Special Advice: Plant in full sun. If possible, plant against a south or west wall or fence, where sun reflection will provide additional heat. Black plastic at base of plants or a tire placed on the soil around each plant also will provide heat for earlier ripening. Tomatoes prefer rich soil kept moderately moist. Fertilize monthly if necessary and avoid spraying foliage when watering.
