SOWING: Sow directly into the garden as soon as soil is workable in early spring. For continual harvest make successive plantings at 3 week intervals until mid spring. Sow seeds 2 inches apart in rows. Cover with 1 to 1 1/2 inches of fine soil firmed down.

SPACING: Leave 2 to 2 1/2 feet between rows; slightly closer if limited for space. Can be grown in wide rows sowing seeds 2 inches apart in all directions.

GERMINATION: Completely dependent upon outdoor temperatures and soil warmth. Usually 1 to 2 weeks.

Ed’s Special Advice: Harvest pods daily as they are most tender and delicious when eaten young with the pods still fairly flat. Provide some string, fence or trellis support to keep vines off the ground and conserve garden space. When possible, plant rows in a north-south direction for best sun exposure and good air circulation. Sow for fall crop in late July.
