SOWING: Outdoors from early spring or as soon as soil is workable. Cover seeds with 1/4 inch light soil.
SPACING: Leave 12 to 15 inches between rows. For close seeding in solid beds, space plants 1 to 2 inches apart in all directions.
THINNING AND TRANSPLANTING: When plants are 2 inches high, thin to 1 inch apart for bunching onions.
GERMINATION: Approximately 10 to 14 days, depending upon soil an weather. Keep soil moderately moist during germination.
Ed’s Special Advice: Sow new crop every 3 to 4 weeks from March to August to help extend harvest season. Late plantings will over-winter for spring harvest. Harvest and use young thin onions as chives. Hill up soil slightly around base of plant for more color on bulbs.
