SOWING: Sow as soon as soil is workable, from early spring. Sow again at 3 week intervals until weather warms. Cover seeds with 1/4 inch fine soil, 3 inches apart.
THINNING: Cut outer leaves as plant matures, enjoy thinned plants, leaving them 6 inches apart.
GERMINATION: One to two weeks, depending upon weather. Keep soil moderately moist during germination.
Ed’s Special Advice: Sow in full sun in the cooler parts of the growing season. Early Spring and Fall are ideal. Prefers somewhat rich soil kept fairly moist. Rotate planting beds to avoid pests. Snip off outer leaves at 2 to 3 inches as plant grows. Rich in vitamins, easy to grow, enjoyable in salads.
