SOWING: Plant seeds directly outdoors from early spring through latest summer. Cover seed with 1/2 inch of soil.
SPACING: Leave 18 to 24 inches between rows or plant seeds 3 to 4 inches apart in wide row or solid bed plantings.
THINNING: Gradually thin plants 6 to 8 inches apart, enjoying the thinned leaves in salads.
GERMINATION: 1 to 2 weeks depending upon soil and weather conditions. Keep soil moderately moist during germination.
Ed’s Special Advice: Harvest outer leaves from a group of established plants, allowing new leaves to grow out from the center. Plants grow best in fairly rich soil kept somewhat moist. A great variety for late crops, it can be harvested into the winter in mild climate areas. Pinch center shoot back when plant matures to prolong harvest period.
