SOWING: Sow indoors in flats in early spring or sow seeds outdoors as soon as soil is workable. Cover seeds with 1/4 inch fine soil.
SPACING: Leave 12 to 15 inches between rows or space 6 inches apart in all directions for intensified gardening.
THINNING AND TRANSPLANTING: When plants are about 2 to 4 inches tall, thin or transplant 5 to 6 inches apart outdoors.
GERMINATION: Approximately 10 to 14 days depending upon soil and weather. Keep soil moderately moist during germination.
Ed’s Special Advice: A sunny location with well-drained, well-fertilized, moderately moist soil assures a successful crop. At maturity, bend over tops to hasten ripening before harvest. Let young onions grow and use for scallions, thinning until final spacing is reached.
SEED SAVING: Onions will flower and seed in their second year. Harvest seed when flowers dry and turn brown. Store in a cool, dry place.

and have been planting these the past three years. These have produced nice baseball to softball sized onions. Started seeds in January, transplanted out in April and harvested in August. Good storage life. Last one used from 2023 crop in early July and it was still firm. Imagine if I planted enough they would have lasted until August 2024 harvest. Will continue to plant these.
