SOWING: Plant seeds in quality, fertile potting mix. Select pots that pets won’t be able to tip over. Space seeds about 1/4 inch apart and cover with approximately 1/2 inch of soil. Place pots in the sunniest south-facing window, if grown indoors. For continued production, plant only part of the seeds initially. Sow more successively at two to three week intervals.
HARVESTING: Pets can start enjoying the grass in about two weeks after planting or when the grass is about four inches high. Grass blades can be snipped back if they get too tall to encourage new tender growth.
GERMINATION: For quicker germination, soak seeds overnight prior to planting. Seeds sprout in three to five days. Keep seedbed moderately moist during germination.
Ed’s Special Advice: Grow in a mostly sunny location, watering when dry, After grass grows too tall and woody, discard and replace with more recent planting. It is normal for some pets to regurgitate the grass. Discontinue their access to the grass if it becomes a serious problem.
