A long, red carrot rich in vitamins and minerals. It is especially high in anti-oxidant lycopene, which is also found in tomatoes. When raw, its roots are light pink and somewhat rough in appearance. When peels and cooks, the carrots turn blood red in color. Its flavor and texture also improves significantly when cooked. Approximately 76 days to maturity.

SOWING: Seed directly into vegetable garden as soon as soil is workable in early spring through mid summer. Cover seeds with 1/8 inch fine soil.

THINNING: When plants are 2-4 inches tall, thin to 2 inches apart.

SPACING: Rows can be spaced 12-18 inches apart, or much closer if limited for space. Can be planted in wide rows 2-3 inches apart in all directions.

GERMINATION: 2 weeks in temperature of 60 degrees F. Keep soil moderately moist during germination.

Ed’s Special Advice: Sow carrots into enriched, cultivated soil kept fairly well watered. A novel addition to the garden and dinner table. Cooks nicely, slightly woody if eaten raw.
