This nasturtium relative is a very fast growing climber. It sports a profusion of 1 to 1 1/2 inch bright yellow flowers with subtle red tracings near the center of the bloom. It’s foliage is deep lobed and very attractive. It is said that from a distance it appears as though the plant is covered with miniature canaries.

SOWING: Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep directly outdoors after danger of frost has passed or start seed early indoors in individual peat pots 3 to 4 weeks before last frost. Soak seed overnight to hasten germination.

THINNING AND TRANSPLANTING: Thin or carefully transplant seedlings to about a foot apart when 4 inches tall.

GERMINATION: 10 to 14 days depending upon weather and soil conditions. Keep soil moderately moist during germination.

Ed’s Special Advice: Canary Bird Vine grows best in a mostly sunny location in areas with cooler summers in light well drained soil. Aphids can sometimes be a problem. Avoid overwatering and do not fertilize.
