SOWING: Plant outdoors in May through June after weather has warmed and all danger of frost has passed. Sow seeds 2 to 3 inches apart covering seeds with 1 to 1 1/2 inches of fine soil. Firm soil over seed.

SPACING: Leave approximately 2 feet between rows or plant in wide rows sowing seeds 4 to 6 inches apart in all directions.

THINNING: When plants are 3 or 4 inches high, thin to 4 to 6 inches apart.

GERMINATION: 1 to 2 weeks depending upon soil and weather conditions. Keep soil moderately moist during germination.

Ed’s Special Advice: Beans grow best in a sunny location, where the soil is warm, loamy and lightly fertilized. Cultivate shallow and frequently until flowers appear. Avoid disturbing plants after that time, as it could cause the blossoms to fall off. For continued harvest, sow bush beans every two weeks until two months before first frost in fall. Water deeply by soaking soil.

SEED SAVING: Let bean pods dry completely on the plant. Remove from pods and store in a cool, dry place.

Produced a lot of delicious beans, but we’re attacked by black aphid things that leave a sticky substance the ants like. This made the leaves pop out distorted. I was able to salvage the fifteen plants I have by manually washing aphids off. I had to tie up the leaves a bit to keep them off the ground. Like I said, TONS of beans! Lots to freeze, even. Planted a couple weeks apart for continuous harvest. Auburn, WA
