SOWING: Plant outdoors from March through August (weather permitting). Sow seeds 2 to 4 inches apart covering them with 1/2 inch of fine soil.
SPACING: Space rows 12 to 18 inches apart or plant seeds 4 inches apart in all directions in beds.
THINNING: Thin to 4 inches apart when seedlings are a few inches high and enjoy the removed young greens in a salad.
GERMINATION: 2 to 3 weeks in warm weather. Keep soil moderately moist during germination.
Ed’s Special Advice: Harvest outer leaves periodically when young for best flavor and texture. Space sowing times several weeks apart for longer harvest season. Beets prefer fertile, light, sandy loam-type soil. Add lime to soil for better flavor and texture.Sow seed in July and August for fall and winter crops. Beet roots and greens’ are rich in vitamins and minerals and a good source of fiber.

Super delicious beets. Grew these in our 2020 Seattle area garden. Only grew 20′ of triple spaced high intensity beets…wish we would have planted more. We ended up sharing them with field mice…naughty little creatures. These beets loved our acidic soil, planted mid May, harvested about July 6th. Not Woody but soft, creamy, sweet goodness. Did get about 15 lbs in the freezer and a week or so fresh eating. Greens were awesome as well. Highly recommend. Will grow again.
