SOWING: Sow seed 1/4 inch deep directly outdoors after danger of frost has passed. Seed can be started indoors in individual peat pots 3 to 4 weeks before setting out.
THINNING AND TRANSPLANTING: Carefully thin or transplant young seedlings to about a foot apart in all directions within the planting area.
GERMINATION: 10 to 15 days. Keep soil moderately moist during germination.
Ed’s Special Advice: Plant sunflowers in a sunny location in somewhat fertile well drained soil. Keep soil weed free and moderately moist while plants are young. Once established plants are somewhat drought and heat tolerant. Will flower mid-summer through fall. Birds are attracted to the seeds.
