Availability: 91 in stock

SOWING: Sow seeds directly in garden in late spring after weather has warmed and all danger of frost has passed. Seeds can also be started in individual peat pots indoors or indoors in a greenhouse 2 to 3 weeks before setting out. Cover seeds with 1/2 to 3/4 inch fine soil well firmed down.

SPACING: Plant 6 to 8 seeds per hill spaced 3 to 4 feet apart. Space rows 3 feet apart.

GERMINATION: One to two weeks depending upon weather and soil warmth. Keep soil moderately moist during germination. Water with warm water.

Ed’s Special Advice: Select a sunny planting location with well-drained enriched soil. Water plants regularly, taking care not to spray foliage. Do not over-water, however, allow soil to dry somewhat between waterings. Harvest fruit when mature, leaving an inch or two of stem on the squash. Store unblemished fruit in a cool well-ventilated area for use throughout the winter. An ideal size for one or two people as a side dish.

SEED SAVING: If planted near other squash, may cross pollinate. Allow squash to fully ripen on vine. Remove seeds from squash, clean with water and dry for multiple days. Store in a cool, dry place.
