SPACING: Plant about 6 seeds per hill spaced 3 to 4 feet apart or space rows 3 feet apart.

THINNING: When plants are 3 to 4 inches tall thin to 3 sturdiest plants per hill. In rows thin plants to 18 inches apart.

GERMINATION: 1 to 2 weeks depending upon weather. Keep soil moderately moist during germination.

Ed’s Special Advice: Plant in sunny location in rich, well-drained soil. Keep fairly well watered and fertilize monthly, but avoid constant over-watering and continual use of high-nitrogen fertilizers. For continued harvest, pick fruit regularly and carefully when young. Avoid over-thinning to keep best mix of types.

SEED SAVING: Allow squash to fully ripen on vine. Remove seeds from squash and ferment in seed/water/squash mixture for 2 days. Clean with water and dry for multiple days. Store in cool, dry place.
