SOWING: Sow seeds directly outdoors after danger of frost has passed. For earlier blossoms, sow seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before last frost. Can also be sown during the summer for blooms the following year. Cover seed with 1/8 inch of fine soil.
THINNING AND TRANSPLANTING: When plants are about 2 inches high, thin or transplant seedlings to about 12-18 inches apart.
GERMINATION: Varies from 1 to 4 weeks depending on variety. Keep soil moderately moist during germination.
Ed’s Special Advice: Select a sunny location with well-drained soil. Cultivate soil and rake smooth. Scatter seeds over planting area, mixing with sand or other soil for greater coverage. Lightly rake seed into a depth of 1/8 inch. Firm soil down and water carefully. Fertilize every spring. Pick or shear back flowers to prolong blooming period.
