SOWING: Sow directly into the garden as soon as soil is workable in early spring. For continual harvest make successive plantings at 3 week intervals until mid spring. Sow seeds 2 inches apart in rows. Cover with 1 to 1 1/2 inches of fine soil firmed down.
SPACING: Leave 2 to 2 1/2 feet between rows; slightly closer if limited for space. Can be grown in wide rows sowing seeds 2 inches apart in all directions.
GERMINATION: Completely dependent upon outdoor temperatures and soil warmth. Usually 1 to 2 weeks.
Ed’s Special Advice: Pods should be eaten young and rather immature. Sow for fall crop in mid to late July. For best cooking results stir-fry or steam for about a minute.
SEED SAVING: Allow pods to dry completely before removing them from the plant. Store seeds in cool, dry place.

I’ve sown these for the past few years and always get a good yield. They’re the first veggies I get out of the garden every spring. They don’t grow very tall, but still seem to like a bit of trellis (which also keeps them away from the slugs). Good for cooking or eating straight from the garden. Succession planting will give you a good steady supply.

I’ve had very good luck with this strain over the last 5 years, with high germination rates. Nice to eat right off the plant. I grow them on a PVC trellis on the north side of my sunny planters. Even my wife will eat them, which is a real testament! Other than my dog eating them, I’ve not noticed any pest damage. I’m going to try and stagger them better this year, to assure a steady stream of sweet peas.
