SOWING: Seed can be sown directly in place from spring through early fall. Do not cover seed, firm into soil with the back of your hand. Seeds can be sown into flats or individual pots for later transplant. Care must be taken during transplant. It has a long, carrot-like tap root. Try to retain considerable soil around the plant and roots, and water well right after transplant.
SPACING: Leave about 12 to 18 inches between established plants.
GERMINATINO: Two to three weeks. Keep seedbed moderately moist during germination.
Ed’s Special Advice: One of the most spectacular flowering perennials grown from seed. It is well worth the initial trouble getting it started. Avoid overhead watering. For cut flowers, select buds just as they start to open. Cut stem and sear end with flame.
