SOWING: Seed as soon as soil is workable in early spring. Plant seeds in 3 inch deep trench, covering seeds with 1/8-inch fine soil. Fill in gradually as plants become established.
SPACING: Leave 12 inches between rows. For intensified gardening, space plants 2 to 3 inches apart in all directions.
THINNING AND TRANSPLANTING: When plants are 2 inches high, thin to 2 to 4 inches apart.
GERMINATION: Approx. 10 to 14 days, depending upon soil and weather conditions.
Ed’s Special Advice: Stagger seeding time at 6 week intervals through midsummer to prolong harvest season. To grow tender white stems, start seeds in a shallow trench and hill soil up gradually around base of plants so they are covered at all times.
