SOWING: Start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before last frost. Cover seed with 1/16 inch fine soil in flats or individual peat pots.
TRANSPLANTING AND SPACING: Transplant outdoors when all danger of frost has passed and weather has warmed. Space about a foot apart.
GERMINATION: Two to three weeks indoors. Keep soil at 70 F and moderately moist during germination.
Ed’s Special Advice: Keep soil moist especially during germination. Pinch back plants when fairly young for bushier more compact growth. Plants prefer a somewhat fertile well drained soil. Combines well with other shade tolerant plants such as pansies, coleus and primrose for brightening up those dark comers.
