SOWING: Sow seeds directly outdoors after danger of severe frost has passed. Greenhouse or indoor, started late winter or early spring plantings may bloom the first year. Sow indoors into individual peat pots for later transplanting. Sow seeds in summer for blooms the following year.
TRANSPLANTING: Seedlings can only be transplanted when very young. Handle carefully and keep fairly moist till established. Individual peat pot started seedlings can be transplanted with care.
THINNING & SPACING: Thin plants to about a foot apart when 2 to 3 inches tall.
GERMINATION: Approximately 3 weeks depending upon soil and weather conditions. Keep soil moderately moist during germination.
Ed’s Special Advice: Sow seeds in a mostly sunny, permanent location with well drained soil. Keep plants fairly well watered during growing season. Protect plants from slugs and aphids.
