SOWING: Seed outdoors April to July. Seed indoors in February or March for earlier plants. Barely cover seeds with fine soil. Needs light to germinate properly. Firm seeds into soil with back of hand.
THINNING AND TRANSPLANTING: When plants are 2 to 4 inches high, thin and transplant to 12 to 18 inches apart.
GERMINATION: Takes up to 30 days, depending upon soil and weather. Keep seeds moderately moist throughout germination period.
Ed’s Special Advice: Grows best in partially-shaded location. Provide good drainage. In cold areas mulch with straw, leaves or evergreen boughs. Pre-chill seeds for one week in refrigerator. Sow seeds in July for blossoms the following year. Removing seed pods may result in additional later blooming.
