SOWING: Seed directly into the vegetable garden as soon as soil is workable. Cover seeds with 1/8 inch fine soil.
THINNING: When plants are 2to 4 inches tall thin to 2 inches apart.
SPACING: Rows can be spaced 12 to 18 inches apart or space 2 to 4 inches apart in all directions in a wide row.
GERMINATION: 2 weeks in temperatures of 60 degrees.
Ed’s Special Advice: Plant carrots at 2 to 3 week intervals for continuous harvest. Planting can continue until mid July for fall and winter harvest. Carrots are a rich source of many vitamins and minerals.
SEED SAVING: Carrots flower and seed in their second year of growth. After flowering, allow greens to brown, then cut from plant and hang to completely dry, up to two weeks. Strip seeds from flower heads and store in a sealed container in a cool, dry place.
