SOWING: After all danger of frost has passed, sow seed directly outdoors. Cover seeds with 1/2 inch of light soil.
SPACING: Leave approximately 2 feet between plants.
GERMINATION: Approximately 2 weeks, depending upon soil warmth and weather conditions. Keep soil moderately moist during germination.
Ed’s Special Advice: Largest flowers and tallest plants are obtained when sunflowers are grown in full sun, in somewhat rich soil, and kept fairly well watered. To save seeds, cut flower head when mature and dry in a cool and well-ventilated spot. When dry, individual seeds can be lightly roasted on a cookie sheet in the oven.
