TOMATO Pik Red VF Hybrid Formerly Red Pak Here it is, our favorite tomato! Pik Red is an excellent large size tomato that consistently ripens in short season climates. Firm, juicy, solid red fruit. Compact, bushy growth makes it ideal for garden or container planting. Approximately 24 seeds. Maturity approximately 71 days from transplanting. Special Directions for Short Season Climates SOWING: Start seeds indoors, in pots, trays or flats in a warm room with plenty of bright light. Water with warm water. Cover with 1/8 inch fine soil. THINNING: Thin when plants are about 2 inches tall. Individually pot or space 3 inches apart. TRANSPLANTING: Plant outdoors in late spring, when all danger of frost has passed and weather has warmed considerably. SPACING: Leave 24 to 36 inches between plants. GERMINATION: Approximately one to two weeks in the home. Ed's Special Advice Plant in full sun. If possible, plant against a south or west wall or fence, where sun reflection will provide additional heat. Black plastic at base of plants or a tire placed on the soil will also provide heat for earlier ripening. Leaves have a tendency to curl at maturity but this is natural and does not affect its performance.
