It has a wide range of brilliant colors of mostly double 1 inch flowers. Excellent as a ground cover and rockery plant as well as hanging baskets and edgings. Special Directions for Short Season Climates SOWING: Do not cover seeds as light aids germination. Start indoors 4-6 weeks before last frost or sow seeds directly outdoors after all danger of frost has passed. THINNING AND TRANSPLANTING: Thin or transplant seedlings 6 to 8 inches apart. GERMINATION: A week to 10 days at 70 F. Keep soil moderately moist during germination. Ed's Special Advice Water infrequently as Portulaca does not like excessively moist soil. Plants are heat and drought tolerant. Flowers close at night and on cloudy days. Plant in full sun in well drained soil.
