PENSTEMON Rainbow Mixed Colors Perennial - Permanent Plant - Height 30 inches A new improved strain of Penstemon with a wide color range with emphasis on the red shades. Trumpet-shaped flowers are produced all around tall stems. Does well in beds, borders, rock gardens or as a backdrop for shorter flowers. Good cut flower, too. Special Directions for Short Season Climates SOWING: Plant seed outdoors after all danger of frost has passed or start seeds indoors for earlier blooming 6 to 8 weeks before last frost. Seed can also be sown in summer for blooms the following year. Cultivate soil and cover with 1/16 inch fine soil firmed down. THINNING AND TRANSPLANTING: When plants are 2 inches tall thin or transplant 12 to 18 inches apart. GERMINATION: 2 to 3 weeks at 65 F. Keep soil moderately moist during germination. Ed's Special Advice Grows best in full sun in cool climates in fairly rich well drained soil. In severe winter areas cover with 4 inches of light mulch.
