Special Directions for Short Season Climates
SOWING: Directly into the garden in early spring as soon as the soil is workable. For continued harvest make successive plantings at 3 week intervals until mid spring. Sow seeds 2 inches apart in rows. Cover with 1 inch of soil.
SPACING: Leave 2 to 2 1/2 feet between rows; slightly closer if limited for space.
GERMINATION: Completely dependent upon outdoor temperatures and soil warmth. Usually 1 to 2 weeks.
Ed's Special Advice
When possible, plant rows in a north-south direction for best sun exposure and good air circulation. Keep moist throughout the growing period. Provide string or trellis support when vines are 3-6 inches tall.
