Special Directions for Short Season Climates
SOWING: Sow indoors in flats in early spring or sow seed directly outdoors as soon as soil is workable. Cover seeds with 1/4 inch fine soil. Leave 6 to 18 inches between rows. Can be spaced 6 inches apart in all directions for intensified solid bed plantings.
THINNING & TRANSPLANTING: When seedlings are about 4 inches tall, thin or transplant 5 to 6 inches apart.
GERMINATION: Usually 10 to 15 days depending upon soil and weather conditions. Keep soil moderately moist during germination.
Ed's Special Advice
Best results are obtained when onions are planted in a sunny location with well drained, well fertilized soil kept moderately moist. At maturity bend over tops to hasten ripening.
