Special Directions for Short Season Climates
SOWING: Start seeds indoors in early spring, up to 8-10 weeks before last frost. Sow in flats, pots or trays. Carefully space seeds about an inch apart. Do not cover seed with soil or medium, firm seed into soil with back of hand. Water carefully by misting with warm water to aid germination. Can also be sown directly outdoors soon after danger of frost has passed for later blooms.
THINNING & TRANSPLANTING: Plant seedlings outdoors after danger of frost has passed. Space plants 4 to 6 inches apart.
GERMINATION: Approximately 3 weeks at 70 degrees.
Ed's Special Advice
Plant in mostly sunny location where summers are cool. Protection from afternoon sun is preferred where weather is hotter. Grows best in rich well drained soil. Keep soil moderately moist and feed after first blooming period. If blooming ceases, lightly shear back plants to encourage new flowers.
