LETTUCE Bon Vivant
A colorful mix of leaf lettuce, with a wide range of shapes, textures and flavors. Bon Vivant means "one who lives the good life". Enjoy your "Salad Days" with this unique blend of healthful, nutritious lettuce. Approximately 45 to 55 days to maturity.
Special Directions for Short Season ClimatesSOWING: Start early indoors or seed directly outdoors from early to mid-spring. Sow again in late summer for fall crop. Barely cover seed with 1/4 inch of fine soil.
THINNING AND TRANSPLANTING: Once plants are established, thin or transplant to 10 to 12 inches apart. Enjoy thinned leaves in a salad. Can be spaced closer in rows when grown for a cutting salad. Transplant indoor started seedlings outdoors after hardening off and danger of severe frost has passed.
SPACING: Leave 18 inches between rows. For bedding in small areas, space 12 inches apart in all directions.
GERMINATION: Approximately one week to 10 days. Start seed in cool 55` to 60`F temperatures. Keep soil moderately moist during germination.
Ed's Special Advice
You can enjoy Bon Vivant as a cutting salad. Begin harvesting leaves before plants are fully mature, trimming off the leaves about 2 inches above the soil line. Harvest leaves again and again as they grow back. Lettuce grows best in rich well drained soil kept moderately moist during the cooler parts of the growing season in early spring and again in fall.
