Special Directions for Short Season Climates

SOWING: Seed after all danger of frost has passed and weather has warmed in late spring. Sow 6 to 8 seeds in hills 4 to 6 feet apart. Cover with 1/2 inch of soil, 10-12 inches apart.

THINNING: Avoid over thinning so as to maintain good mix of different varieties.

GERMINATION: Approximately 7 to 10 days or longer, depending upon soil and weather conditions. Keep soil moderately moist during germination.

Ed's Special Advice

Easy to grow. Select a sunny spot with rich, well drained soil. Harvest when vines begin to die back before first frost. Do not try to save any bruised or soft gourds. Leave about one inch of stem and hang gourds in a coo/ room with good air circulation. Allow to cure, then treat with shellac for long term use. Can be grown so vines are trained up fence or trellis to save space and for decorative value.
