DELPHINIUM Blue Butterfly Perennial - Permanent Plant Height: 12 to 16 inches This is the dwarf bush version of the popular garden flower. It blooms from early summer to fall in a profusion of blue flowers against airy dark green foliage. Although a perennial, it will flower the first year from a spring sowing. Special Directions for Short Season Climates SOWING: Can be seeded indoors in February or March for earlier plants. Direct seed outdoors around the time of last frost. Can be sown in mid to late summer for blooms the following year. Cover seed with 1/8" of fine soil. THINNING & SPACING: Carefully transplant seedlings when about 2 inches high to around a foot apart. GERMINATION: Two to three weeks. Keep soil moderately moist during germination. Ed's Special Advice Delphiniums thrive in rich well drained soil. Plant in a mostly sunny spot in cool summer areas and shady areas in hotter climates. Protect young seedlings from slugs. Makes a good cut flower in smaller vases.
