ALYSSUM Saxatile, Basket of Gold Perennial- Permanent Plant - Height 6 to 12 inches A favorite rockery perennial. It flowers in masses of dense yellow clusters throughout the spring. The spreading plants are used in borders and edging as well as rock gardens. It combines well with other spring flowering perennials when planted in the foreground of landscape beds. Special Directions for Short Season Climates SOWING: Plant outdoors in summer for blooms the following spring. Barely cover seeds with fine soil. Seed can also be started indoors in March to get a jump on the growing season. THINNING AND TRANSPLANTING: When plants are about 3 inches high, thin or transplant seedlings to about a foot apart. GERMINATION: Germinates in 3 to 4 weeks at 60 F. Keep soil moderately moist during germination. Ed's Special Advice Grow in full or partial sun, in soil that is well drained. Difficult to transplant once established, so place in permanent spot. Lightly shear after spring flowering to keep plants bushy and at their best.
